Additional Information

River History and Wildlife

The river runs calm through most of this area but has some fast water to keep you moving. The fishing is good along this section in the river so bring your fishing pole.

You will travel past Standing Stone and French Azilum Historical Site by putting in the river at the boat club or Wysox. We will arrange a special Azilum tour if you want to stop there for a visit. The French Asylum Township Old Mill Park at Homet's Ferry is a nice place to stop for lunch. Ingham's Mill just celebrated its 200th year.

It is common to see a bald eagle in this area of the river. The river valleys are abundant in wildlife. Great blue herons, belted kingfishers will lead the way as you paddle down river toward them. You may see a river otter, white tail deer, black bear, or a red fox playing along the water banks.

Some notes from paddlers

Hello Melody and Dave,

Just wanted to tell you what an absolutely wonderful time we had kayaking down the Susquehanna last Saturday with your group!  I will definitely be back again – besides, I promised my daughter that next time was her turn since her horse riding accident spoiled her fun!  I wondered if you ever thought about having a “guest book” or some place on your website for us to make remarks about your trips?  I went to your site with the intention of doing that but didn’t find a place for comments.

Thanks for a great day!

The Upper Browntown Sisters and Colin
